The conference titled "Visa liberalization: Challenges and advantages for businesses from Kosovo" - organized by the German-Kosovo Chamber of Commerce - was held with dynamic discussions . The economic consequences of increased labor mobility was the topic of the second panel moderated by Sarah McGregor – International Organization for Migration IOM , in which experts from organizations and institutes discussed the possible consequences, derived from their studies and observations. The results of the "Riinvest" Institute , based on a survey of over a thousand businesses, show that Kosovo continues to face major challenges in the labor market.
While the unemployment rate has decreased (to 12.6 percent in 2022), the level of employment as a percentage of the population remains low (33.8 percent). The decline in the labor force participation rate from over 40 percent to 38.6 percent is also reflected to be influenced by migration. Alban Hashani - Executive Director at the "Riinvest" Institute has shown that 120,000 people have migrated to Germany in recent years and this will continue in the future.
